Can a Number Be Cursed?

  • Post author:

So I was watching the Travel Channel last night and there was this show on called American Mysteries (I know, nerd alert).  The show was about multiple airline crashes of flights numbered 191.  Since 1972 there have been four crashes of flights with this number.  Four!  WTF?

I don’t know about you, but in the supposed safest form of travel, four crashes with the same flight number seems more than coincidental to me.

1972 Prinair flight #191 crashed while trying to land in Puerto Rico – 5 people died

1979American Airlines flight #191 crashed while taking off in Chicago – 271 passengers died plus 2 people on the ground

1985 – Delta Airlines flight #191 crashed while trying to land in Dallas – 137 passengers died plus 1 person on the ground

2006 – Delta Airlines flight #191 crashed while taking off in Kentucky – 49 people died

2012 – JetBlue flight #191 – did not crash, but was diverted after the captain had a mental breakdown and had to be restrained mid-flight

Maybe you’re saying well, it could be that a certain make of airplane was faulty.  Nope, these were all different models.

Explain that shit.

Another weird fun fact:  a woman, Judith Wax, who died on American Airlines flight #191 had written a book called “Starting in the Middle”.  In the book she referenced her fear of flying.  This reference was written on page 191.

C’mon!

And then there’s this oddity:  191 is 9/11 rearranged.

Or how about this tidbit I discovered with a little GTS (Googling That Shit):  during the Civil War General Robert E. Lee issued Special Order 191, and lost it.  Oops.  Union troops found it.  There was a lot of juicy info in that order about the Confederate Army’s plans.

Was Order 191 a curse for General Lee?  Or just a lucky find by the Union Army?

My more scientific-minded, logical friends would say these are just crazy coincidences.  But me and my this-shit-has-to-mean-something compadres would say, no, not coincidences.  We say the number is cursed.

Now who up there in the cosmos decided to curse the number 191 (and 13 by the way) and orchestrate that bad things happen with this number I don’t know.  And why they would do so, I extra don’t know.  Some weird inner workings of the Universe we aren’t privy to I suppose.

Is there some message in this number we’re not getting?  Is that why these things keep happening?

Fuck if I know, but this shit sure is fascinating.

What I do know is that I won’t tempt fate and ever fly on a flight numbered 191.  I’ve read that most air carriers agree and don’t even use this number anymore.  Most, not all.

So check your flight number before you fly people!

I mean, if you believe in that kind of stuff.

P.S.  I was going to include that the frozen drink at Fat Tuesday’s called 191 Octane is also cursed because nothing ever good happened after I drank those.  They sure were tasty though.  Then I realized I had the number wrong, it’s called 190 Octane.  Okay, one off.  Close enough.
